TheDailyShow.com was a true harbinger of what was to come for television. A stand alone site apart from cc.com, The Daily Show vertical experience was one of the first digital destinations that hosted the near complete run of a series online, The Daily Show with Jon Stewart. Alongside one additional web designer and a production artist, I was in responsible for the initial builds of the site from 2008, and eventually the sole designer in charge of refresh, updates and art direction through the series' eventual host turnover in 2015.
Similarly and always the companion to Jon Stewart's outspoken voice, but clearly a character standing tall on his own, Stephen Colbert's The Colbert Report followed suit by having its own vertical show experience online. In this case I was the sole graphic designer under the art director responsible for design and upkeep of ColbertNation.com, eventually leading art direction through the show's finale in 2015.
Both show sites underwent several phases of redesign and featured various stunts, thematic updates based on seasons and show initiatives, and expanded to the responsive realm of web design in 2012. In keeping up with the changing digital spaces and upgrades, they also each benefitted from having several mobile app experiences, from the Daily Show Digest and the Colbert Word and Nation apps, which featured recent show clips and extended interviews, exclusive content and other show specific fan engagement materials.
